Creating Media: 7 months, 3 weeks agoWe’ve started on an exciting project at St Felix Middle School. Blending Media, Art and Design(MAD)the entire school is timetabled for two hours a week working on a cross-curricular project to create a digital archive when the school closes at the end of this academic year. We’ve started out this term by students focussing on themselves and will…[Read more]

Creating Media: 11 months agoLooking to put together a safe, affordable, manageable simple film lighting setup for school use, so pupils can experiment with hard/soft lighting, high and low key lighting and rim light. I’m thinking in terms of using different sizes of Chinese lanterns, high-power low energy light bulbs, and basic lighting stands. Has anyone done this and can…[Read more]

Creating Media: 1 year agoAt last! I’ve been raving about this Kaltura plugin for a couple of years. It allows for multiple access and editing to a collection of video clips but up to now you have had to install it on your own servers. Stroome have created collaborative video editing site. It appears to…[Read more]

Creating Media: 1 year agoI’ve recently posted a ”music” video on my blog
Anyone made music videos in school?

Shot and edited this one a while back, just mucking about with green screen (mistakes included!)

I’m really interested in the interaction between moving image and music and was considering issuing a piece of music to a KS3 class to see what different groups made of it. Could be a collaborative effort with the music dept. Also considered using student mixed pieces (Garage Band/Aviary) as a starting point for a video collage. I think it could…[Read more]

Creating Media: 1 year, 3 months agoThe Gamer scenario now has more ’howto’ details and an embedded demo video. It’s designed for every individual in a class to make a short film without leaving the room…
It has it’s own URL so you can make a direct link on your site. Might make a homework project for more experienced film makers too http://bit.ly/gDX1rH - Load More
We have two three-panel, colour balanced LED lighting rigs with footswitches, but they’re large, heavy and I’m not wildly impressed with the level of lighting. They are really better for theatrical use.
I have found big, million candlepower, rechargeable flashlights really useful though, especially when used with reflectors – you know, this kind…[Read more]
Thanks Tim. I had wondered about the high powered torches, and that IKEA lamp looks good.
I am planning to try some Chinese lanterns as well, so I’ll post my results.
I’ve just been filming in a school using builders’ work lamps – cheap and effective, but hot and dangerous, so I definitely need an alternative.
Nearly had a nasty accident with those things a few years back!
Hi Tom
This year, some students shot their music video using a Nikon D90 DSLR. The footage as you can imagine was gorgeous, however because we currently only have CS3 (upgrading to CS5.5 this summer!), converting the files proved to be an absolute nightmare for the students and editing was a very slow process because the files ate up so much…[Read more]
Further to this, have recently ordered two Canon 600Ds for the department. Students are very excited to be working with dslrs as they are looking forward to the freedom and quality that they will provide. Am also very excited about the results they will produce
