Primary Media Education: 1 year, 3 months agoThe primary film literacy project in Bradford is going great guns…..I sat happily at the back on Tuesday watching lead literacy practitioners teach their primary teachers how to approach talking and writing about film with KS2 pupils and to use flip cams to film and edit still and moving objects. We will have case studies and some evidence by…[Read more]

Primary Media Education: 1 year, 6 months agoSarah Mumford posted an interesting bit of information about a primary media education project in Bradford but you have to go to her page to read it! The point of the groups is that we get to share relevant information and members of the group get told when somebody’s posted something. You’re the Group Admin, Sarah – let’s hear about what you’re doing!

Primary Media Education: 1 year, 7 months agoI’ve just received the book Primary Schools and ICT: Learning from Pupil Perspective by N. Selwyn, J. Potter and S. Cranmer that I ordered a while ago. Having flipped through the book, I’ve found it really interesting and useful to see how my daughter’s school is managing ICT lessons. I then think it’d be a good idea to donate a copy to the school…[Read more]

I’m glad it’s going well Sarah. Personally I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t. Film-making is such a brilliantly integrative project that draws skills from all over the place and gives everybody involved a real purpose and a real audience – you can even sit next to them and eat popcorn. What I really hope is you got a loud enough megaphone to…[Read more]
The tricky thing about making the case for this kind of work is to disentangle the arguments people are expecting to hear – is that film is a great stimulus – from the arguments they really need to hear which are that film and writing are both underpinned by many of the same concepts – narrative, metaphor, authorship etc etc and you can teach…[Read more]
This sounds really great Sarah. How did you do it? Do you have bits of it written up already that you could share? We have been working on the same things down here in Devon and are going for a big push with it after April. I’d love to hear your ideas.
Bradford was awardedUnesco City of Film status recently and established a Learn Board a year ago – which i chair – as part of the overall City of Film strategy. One of the aims at the time (things are under review right now) was to increase opportunities for learning about film. I recalled the BFI Film Literacy Lead Practitioner scheme and asked…[Read more]
