Film: 21st Century Literacy – The Pilots

In 2008 the UK Film Council (UKFC) allocated £750,000 of Lottery money to “a strategy for film education across the UK”. Billed as a partnership between six publicly funded agencies (UKFC, British Film Institute, Film Club, Film Education, First Light Movies and Skillset), it aimed “to move film education on from being a series of disconnected experiences to becoming an integral part of every young person’s life” and promised to start building “a wide and growing partnership” as the basis for realising this aim.  Part of this initiative involved funding nine “pilot projects” which were “designed to test out new partnership models and ways of delivering film education in a range of settings.” Reports from six of these pilots are published here, together with an editorial providing a critical overview and a background article on the Strategy.
